Around half of all thyroid nodules have considerable cystic properties to some extent and pure cysts (liquid-filled cavities) are often found in the thyroid gland. Although largely benign, even small cysts cause discomfort, including a feeling of pressure or difficulties swallowing. Initial treatment consists of ultrasound-guided puncture and suction to remove the liquid. Unfortunately, either the cysts refill or internal bleeding occurs in 80 percent of cases. In addition to surgical treatment, for the first time in Upper Austria, the Wels thyroid practice now offers ethanol ablation as a minimally invasive procedure for treating cysts.<\/p>\n

Very high success rate<\/h2>\n

Ethanol ablation is now recognised by many renowned scientific organisations (European Thyroid Association, American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, etc.) as a standard treatment for benign cysts. The treatment is successful in over 90 percent of all cases.

Ablauf der Alkoholablation<\/h2>\n

Zun\u00e4chst wird eine lokale Bet\u00e4ubung unter die Haut gesetzt, sodass der kurze Eingriff nahezu schmerzfrei erfolgen kann. Ultraschall-gezielt wird eine Aspirationsnadel in die Zyste eingef\u00fchrt und mittels einer Spritze der Inhalt nahezu vollst\u00e4ndig entleert. Unmittelbar danach wird die urspr\u00fcngliche Zyste mit einer 95 %-igen Alkoholl\u00f6sung wieder bis zur H\u00e4lfte des urspr\u00fcnglichen Volumens bef\u00fcllt. Der Alkohol, der 2 Minuten in der Zyste verbleibt und danach wieder vollst\u00e4ndig abgesaugt wird, verursacht eine chemische Sch\u00e4digung der Zystenw\u00e4nde, sodass diese verkleben.\u00a0 Damit wird eine erneute F\u00fcllung der \u201ever\u00f6deten\u201c Zyste \u00e4u\u00dferst unwahrscheinlich.<\/p>\n

Bei gemischt zystisch-soliden Knoten ist die\u00a0Radiofrequenzablation<\/a>\u00a0(Ver\u00f6dung) die effektivere Therapie.<\/p>\n

Der Eingriff dauert nur wenige Minuten, verl\u00e4uft nahezu schmerzfrei und hinterl\u00e4sst keine Narben. Die Kosten liegen mit 350 \u20ac relativ niedrig, verglichen mit einer operativen Sanierung.<\/p>\n

Die Krankenkassen entscheiden im Einzelfall \u00fcber eine R\u00fcckerstattung. Die meisten Zusatzversicherungen \u00fcbernehmen je nach abgeschlossenem Vertrag die Kosten des Eingriffs.
